CIVIL RIGHTS ADVOCATE LAMELL MCMORRIS NAMED NEWEST MEMBER OF THE CRISIS PUBLISHING COMPANY BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Founder, CEO of Perennial Strategy Group expands board membership to The Crisis Publishing Company

Washington, DC, April 9, 2013: In a board-wide conference call on Thursday, Chairman Laura Blackburne announced the appointment of Lamell McMorris to The Crisis Publishing Company’s eleven-member Board of Directors.

“I am energized to collaborate with these leading individuals in the civil rights community. In this era of social media, the opportunity to engage readers across generations on the race-based equality issues of our time is key to propelling our progress forward” says McMorris, the dynamic young activist who maintains a formidable understanding of social justice issues that continue to afflict our nation today.

McMorris’ post occurs 103 years after the company’s initial publication, The Crisis. One of the oldest black periodicals in America, The Crisis is a respected journal of thought, opinion and analysis that remains the official publication of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Though operating independently of the NAACP, The Crisis has chronicled, informed, educated, entertained and, in many instances, set the economic, political and social agenda for our nation and its multiethnic citizens.

A notable friend of the NAACP, McMorris serves on several NAACP committees, including the Economic Development Committee, the Legal Committee, the Image Awards Committee, and the SCF Trustee and Development Committee. McMorris is also a Diamond Life Member of the organization and a proud recipient of the Benjamin L. Hooks Keeper of the Flame Award, which he received in 2010 at the NAACP 101st Annual National Convention in Kansas City, MO.

In addition to his civic involvement, McMorris is an active entrepreneur. A native Chicagoan, he moved to Washington, DC in 2002 to launch Perennial Strategy Group (www.perennialsg.com), a strategic advisory firm that provides government relations and public affairs services to Fortune 500 companies, national non-profits, trade associations, and public-sector clients on a wide range of public-policy issues and corporate matters. Shortly thereafter, McMorris also opened Perennial Law Group (www.perenniallg.com) and Perennial Sports and Entertainment (www.perennialse.com), which collectively represent a number of well-known entertainers and dozens of professional football, basketball, and baseball players.
