McMORRIS EXPANDS LEADERSHIP ROLE TO INCLUDE MILES COLLEGE

Founder, CEO of Perennial Strategy Group appointed to the Miles College Board of Trustees

Washington, DC, May 6, 2013: In a pivotal year for this designated member of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) located in metropolitan Birmingham, Alabama, the Miles College Board of Trustees recently appointed their newest member to its ranks. Lamell McMorris, Founder and CEO of Perennial, a Washington, D.C.-based family of businesses, will join the board on October 16, 2013.

McMorris, a graduate of the only all-male HBCU, Morehouse College, and an active trustee for Elmhurst College, is attentive to the growing needs of secondary education institutions, their students, and their faculty. “I’m diligently committed to supporting the social, intellectual and cultural landscape of Miles College,” says McMorris. “The leadership of Miles College and its future looks brighter than any other HBCU I can think of right now!”

Included on the 2013 roster for this thriving institution are the following: a $20 million capital improvement project bringing three new buildings to the campus, a nine-percent increase in student enrollment, and key civil rights commemorations celebrating the Miles College trailblazers who were critical to Birmingham’s role in the Civil Rights Movement fifty years ago.

Having served as a senior advisor to some of the nation’s most formidable civil rights advocates including Martin Luther King, III, coupled with his unparalleled expertise in strategic consulting and broad-based coalition building, McMorris is aptly situated in his new role with the board. He states, “As Miles College fulfills momentous plans for growth and development, I am honored to deliberate with my fellow board members on the best practices for ensuring the long-term health of this historical establishment.”
